[25 July 2012] Leading wireless services provider Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart) was lauded by the Cebu City Government as an Eco-Friendly Advocate in recognition of its programs to conserve and protect the environment. The award was recently given as part of the city’s celebration of Eco-Friendly Month organized by PREIMAX Global Solutions Inc. in partnership with the departments of Environment and Natural Resources, Energy, Science and Technology; Cebu City Traffic Operations Management and the Cebu Provincial and City governments. Smart’s noteworthy projects for the environment include tree-planting initiatives in Barangay Guba and Cebu Zoo; the donation of over 140 kilos of merchandising posters that bear the old Smart logo in support of the city’s recycling project; and the telco’s partnership with City Councilor Nida Cabrera for the Earth Hour, which is now on its second year. Smart has also made “green warriors” out of elementary and high school students in Barangay Guba to help nurture the trees that were planted in line with the telco’s reforestation efforts.
